A Community Art Show: Travelling Onward
Returning home after months of travels, these paintings reflect some sights, moods, and musings. They are currently in a show on Saturna Island, where I and my art studio live. Wish you could join us for the reception on April 15. The show runs to April 26. If you can't get to Saturna, you can see a slide show of the real show:
I like doing these shows in my island community. It's not great exposure in the art world, but it gives me a senses of sharing and a sense of home to all my travels. The video slideshow below presents the works on display with my comments about each one (click arrow bottom left).
One of my personal favourites is the cover painting. It was done on plaster over canvas to mimic old frescoes, with some content relating to medieval times (figures and architecture) but painted in a very contemporary style. It's reminiscent of wonderful times in Italy, a renaissance culture combining past and present. For me, the painting celebrates a mix of the absurd and sublime elements of Italian life.
Having spent several years' worth of travels and extended stays in different regions of Italy, I can share some of its sights, foods, and experiences with you online here ://www.janetstrayer.com/single-post/creative-life-goes-to-italy
Enjoy the trip!
Great stuff!
