What's Music Got to Do with It?

Can you see/hear the connection of this painting, Night on Bald Mountain, with Mussorgsky's evocative music? Many painters I know like to listen to music as they paint. Not me. Music often takes me away with it, my full attention absorbed, so that I can't be fully involved in painting process. Yet music often lingers strongly in my mind, affecting my mood and the rhythms of the painting I start. That's the case with my Night on Bald Mountain. Defiant Grief: into the Archives

Defiant Grief is a painting from my archives. It's now on exhibit with other artwork at the Moat Gallery in Vancouver's stunning central library. The exhibition, on until Dec. 28, encourages awareness of and social action against violence to women. Hope you get to see the powerful work displayed and organized by Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelters. To read more about this painting, click here
